Khailee Ng is one smart cookie. At just 30 years old he has been involved in over 40 fast-growth technology startups as a founder, advisor, or investor, and is a well-known, incredibly passionate and inspirational, entrepreneur. Plus, he already has 2 company exits under his belt.
Khailee co-founded group buying site GroupsMore.com, launched it in 3 weeks, grew it to be the largest player in Malaysia in 3 months, and then sold to Groupon. He also co-founded SAYS.com, a social news company in Southeast Asia, grew it into a fast-growing, profitable business with some of the biggest brands in the world as returning customers, and recently merged it with public listed media company Catcha Media Berhad. Khailee is also the Chairman of REV Asia.
He proceeded to angel invest in startups, making investments in the US and Southeast Asia before becoming an EIR at 500 Startups. He is now a Venture Partner at 500 Startups, overseeing a Southeast Asian focused fund, investing in the next generation of Southeast Asia’s most promising startups.
In 2006 Khailee won the HSBC Young Entrepreneur Award, Best in Asia, a startup-pitching contest beating 1,700 teams in Asia. This was the first and only time Malaysia won this.
In 2011, Khailee was selected by US State Govt for the IVLP (a program which counts Tony Blair, and other heads of state) to go on an all expenses paid one month learning trip across the USA to meet with VCs, incubators, and startups to deepen knowledge and connections with the global startup ecosystem. Khailee also spent time with Richard Branson to brainstorm on Virgin Unite’s entrepreneurial development initiatives.
See what I mean? He is clever.
I’m sure you don’t need any more inspiration, but if you do, check out this video of Khailee speaking about ‘The Eventuality, The Heist, and The Ripple’ at Awesomeness Fest Bali in 2013.
In this video Khailee expresses that when most people embark on a big mission, be it starting a business or a social cause, they will face a couple of ‘frequently-faced obstacles’. While most people prescribe a set of habits, qualities, or tactics to overcome these obstacles, Khailee discovered that they can be overcome, or even prevented when you shift your focus from solving the problem itself to shifting the context altogether.
Khailee identified 3 specific ‘context-shifts’ that will help anyone who is on a mission, and shares these shifts in a visually unique and memorable way.
Last week Awesomeness Fest Thailand sold out, but due to the high demand, and the truly epic applications we’ve received, we have decided to open up 15 more tickets.
