A-fest’s involvement in Give Back Day began back in 2011, and was the brainchild of one of our A-fest Tribe members, the incredible Rebekah Uccellini. This meaningful initiative is designed to give A-fest attendees the opportunity to participate in a volunteer project which brings the best of A-fest out of the conference room and into the local community.

“Give Back Day was a beautiful ending to the elevation and growth after A-fest. Being in the presence of so much love and sharing with gratitude for all I’d received over the 4 days of A-fest was the best way to complete my experience. I was utterly moved and inspired by everything we were able to accomplish in one day and how much we received in giving back.” – Volunteer at Give Back Day Costa Rica

Excited A-fest Tribe Members ready to make the magic happen at the Give Back Day!

A-fest is a transformational event where people learn & grow, experience breakthroughs in their personal and professional life, have the chance to connect with incredible people from all around the world, spend amazing quality time, and so on. The best way to end the magical experience is to pay it forward by helping the local people and community.

This time, our Tribe member and A-fest speaker, Stephen Brooks, lead the Give Back Day in Costa Rica. Stephen is a long time resident of Costa Rica, the co-founder of Envision Festival and the founder of Punta Mona Center for Regenerative Design and Botanical Studies.

We were honored to have the chance to work with a Costa Rican non-profit organisation, CEPIA (Culture, Education and Psychology for Infants and Adolescents) that seeks to promote culture, health, sports and education for children, teenagers and their families from low-income backgrounds in the communities of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

The passion and desire of Laetitia Deweer, the Director of Cepia, to improve the lives of people in the local community is incredible and admirable. We are beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to help her with all the amazing job she is doing daily at Cepia.

The day was filled with different activities and projects which were met with beautiful and excited emotions from the kids at Cepia. We played, danced, learned, had lunch with the kids – the emotions and positive energy felt when spending time with the kids and seeing smiles on their faces is something that is impossible to describe in words. It can be felt with the heart.

To help beautify the center, we had two talented artists, Makhno Mata Guido and Virginia Ann Holt designing murals for the Cepia building and a wall at a nearby school. Volunteers were helping with the painting and it all came together beautifully.

We also worked on a Garden Project throughout the day – planting fruit trees and creating a beautiful community garden. Stephen Brooks is extremely passionate about permaculture and in particular fruit trees, so we could not have asked for a better person to lead this project.

Another goal for the Give Back day was to improve the kids’ play area and build a shade structure over it to protect them from rain and sun as it gets very hot in Costa Rica during the day.

Having our beloved A-fest DJs Sammy Taggett and Michael Platt play the music made the whole day even more cheerful and fun! And of course, the kids absolutely loved playing around with the DJ equipment and learning how it works.

In addition to working and helping Cepia at Give Back Day, the A-fest Team and the volunteers contributed additionally by donating items that the kids at Cepia need and we will continue helping by providing more essential things.

Our goal is to always make the Give Back Day a really impactful one with a lasting effect on the people from the local community and also to make it memorable for everyone participating. We believe this goal was achieved and everything came together perfectly at this Give Back Day in Costa Rica. We are excited to start planning the next event and continue impacting the world!

Huge thanks to Stephen Brooks, Cepia and all the incredible volunteers who made this special day happen.
